Summer has finally arrived and it marks the beginning of the beginning of the mango season. Summer and fresh mangoes go parallel with each other. Summer without mangoes seems incomplete just like coke without ice. Over the years consuming mangoes have been proven to be the best way to beat heat, while satisfying you’re taste buds and ensuring sweetness and taste.

India is the known to be the largest producer of mangoes. While over 500-1000 varieties of mangoes available all over the world, India produces around 100 varieties each differing in size, shape, taste and color, it is crowned as the best fruit of all times! The most famous varieties of mangoes in India are known as Alphonsos,Badami,Chausa and Dasheri.

So here we have made an effort to list down the top 16 varieties/types of mangoes available, which are the best in terms of flavor, nutritional value and richness and will undeniably make you drool.

1. Chaunsa mango

Chausa or Chaunsa literally means “a sucker”. Once you start eating it, you fail to resist yourself and are lost sucking every drop of its heavenly nectar!! Consuming a chaunsa is an out-of-the-body experience. Every drop of this heavenly nectar is filled in with  the goodness of antioxidants.

2. Alphonso Mango

Often referred to as King of Mango, Alphonso is Fibreless, extremely fragrant, delicious. Every person has a desire to taste Alphonso at least once in a season. Being a rich source of phytochemicals, Vitamin A & C, Vit B and traces of Vit E &K. It also contains minerals such as Iron, copper & potassium. Alphonso pulp is used in jams,jellies, sweets, candies, smoothies and mango drinks.

3. Banganapalli mangoes

Love oozes by heaps and pounds in this juicy mango from Andhra Pradesh.  It has a unique sweet taste and is moderately juicy. It is maize yellow in color with shining skin. Loaded with the goodness of Vitamin C & A, these mangoes are known to be rich in fibre content. the pulp of these mangoes are often used to make milkshakes, juices and various desserts.

4. Kesar mango

Known as the “Queen of Mangoes”, Kesar is one of the sweetest varieties. Skin is yellow with a tinge of green on the outside. Pulp is bright orange in colour. This fruit is a rich source of energy, prevents internal hemorrhage and treats acidity.

5. Dasheri mango

This is the most famous Mango from the Northern Indian sub-continent and is one of the sweetest Mangoes that exist. Any Indian celebration is incomplete without a serving of   Dasheri. It is high in dietary fiber and is filled with the goodness of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. It also improves digestion, eye health, skin and lowers cholesterol.

6. Mallika mango

Mallika mango is a cross between dussehri and neelam varieties of mangoes. The color of the mango is orangish yellow when ripe. The flesh is fiberless orange fruit. the fruit is sweet and contains essential flavonoids that are required for the healthy skin, strong immune system. Maintains good vision.

7.  Langra mango

Langra is one of the most superior varieties of Mango from the Northern Indian sub-continent.  It gives out a sweet ripening smell when ripe and is full of juice and pulp. It is high in fibre and prevents many diseases and boosts metabolism.

8.  Himayat mango

Primarily grown in the Andhra Pradesh region in India. It is a large mango which is extremely flavorful and sweet. It grows to really big sizes and outstands the competition in terms of size, aroma and flavor. It is said to have been a favorite among the Nawabs of Hyderabad and is considered as a symbol of royalty. It is used to make delicacies in the Southern Indian states.

9. Sindhura Mango

Sindhuri is a leading mango variety from the Sindh province of Pakistan.  It is one of the most fragrant and flavorful mangoes grown in this region. It can grow very big in size towards the end of the season and has excellent shelf life. It’s a good source of vitamin A, C and Potassium. Maintains healthy skin and alkalizes the whole body.

10. Chinna rasalu

Chinna Rasalu is the most popular high fiber, juice mango from the Andhra Pradesh region of India.  The most sought after chinna rasalu mangoes come from the Nuzvid region of Andhra. It gives protection against heat and eases digestion.

11.  Peda rasalu mango

The Peda Rasalu is more widely grown and all over the Andhra region- it can get very big in size. The pulp is fibrous and yellow in colour. A glass of this magical drink is a cure for heat stroke and it eases digestion.

12. Cheruku rasam mango

Cheruku rasam is juicy and extremely sweet (Cheruku means sugary), although it gives up some of its fragrance to accommodate the sweetness. When ripe, it is like a balloon filled with juice- it is fibrous, but extremely soft and juicy. It prevents dehydration and eases digestion.

13. Kothapalli Kobbari mango

Kothapalli Kobbari is a mango which is named after its shape. It has a sweet firm flesh  and rich flavour while raw, thus it is mostly consumed as raw and used for making sweet chutney / pickles. It gives protection against heat and eases digestion.

14. Amrapalli mango

Amrapali is a hybrid variety of ‘Dasheri’ and ‘Neelum’ The pulp of the mango is deep orange red. The colour comes from high quantity of carotenes that have several health benefits. The fiber present in a mango piece immensely aids in food digestion.
